Addictions

To be "addicted" or "dependent" means that you cannot do without a product, an activity, or a behaviour, even if you know that it has negative consequences on your health.

What is an addiction?

It is a loss of freedom towards a certain product or behavior.

You cannot control yourself and this can lead to serious struggles with your loved ones, your studies or your work; effects on your moods and behaviour; health or money problems, etc.

Very often, at the beginning, you might have difficulty perceiving and recognizing that you are addicted. It is often those close to us who point out that our relationship with this product or activity seems problematic. You might then tend to hide, not want to talk about it anymore or even say that you have stopped, so that the subject does not come up again. Acknowledging the issue and allowing yourself to talk about it is the first (and not the easiest!) step on the road to freedom.

There are many addictions: to products as well as to activities or behaviours. To name a few: alcohol, drugs, tobacco, video games, gambling, sports, sex, etc.
